A large late 19th century French carriage clock, the gilt brass case with fluted columns on a stepped plinth base and with a fluted carrying handle, over a rectangular bevelled viewing glass to the English lever escapement, the 2.25” gilt metal dial with engine turned centre, Roman numerals in black with outer minute markers, blued steel hands and with a highly reflective silvered mask, to an eight day two train movement with repeater function striking the hours and half hours on a coiled gong, stamped to the lower left corner of the backplate R&C around a Caduceus in a circle for Richard et Compagnie. French, circa 1880. Supplied with a winding key. Condition: Excellent, the clock is in very good condition with no damage whatsoever to the case or dial, the mirrored mask is pristine, and the movement has been fully serviced and overhauled and is in excellent working order. Richard et Compagnie was begun in Paris in 1848 and opened a branch in London in 1867, making mostly carriage clocks for both British and French markets, operating from their workshops at Rue Bondy until the beginning of the 20th century.
